Lazy Daisy Stitch

Within my work, I often incorporate the Lazy Daisy Flower, one of my favourite embroidery motifs. I love it so much that it has become my Flora Patterns logo. This simple stitch creates a lovely, graphic flower that adds a handmade touch to any felt craft project or embroidery design.

The basic flower is made up of chain stitches arranged in a circle, a short row of running stitches for the stem, two long chain stitches as leaves and a central French knot. These beginner‑friendly stitches make the Lazy Daisy perfect for modern hand embroidery, felt sewing kits, and decorative stitching on my designs.

Here are the basic steps you need to follow;

Step 1 – Draw a circle and mark out petals,  a stem and leaves using a dissolvable fabric pen.

Step 2 – Using a chain stitch work your way around the circle.

Step 3 – Start at bottom and create the leaves

Step 4 – Finish by sewing the stem using a running stitch

Step 5 – Add a French Knot at the centre

Step 6 – Remove any fabric pen marks to reveal the finished daisy flower.

Here is a free downloadable sheet of the above.
