Summer Bears

Over the past few days, I’ve been busy in my studio putting the finishing touches on this new collection of handmade mini bears, each featuring unique embroidered tummies.

While staying cool indoors and escaping the summer heat, I’ve carefully crafted these pieces, and I’m delighted with the results.

Developing the Flora Patterns Bat Sewing Kit

Over the last few weeks, I’ve been busy developing a Bat Sewing Kit based on my original Flora Patterns bat sewing pattern. As I worked through each stage, I refined the pattern pieces and adjusted the stitching sequence. My focus was on making the process as simple and enjoyable as possible for anyone who is new to hand‑sewing. I believe each improvement has helped the design become more intuitive and beginner‑friendly.

Tried and tested

I’ve tested every step to ensure the instructions stay clear and easy to follow, especially for anyone learning basic embroidery stitches or exploring wool felt crafts for the first time. Because of this, the finished kit brings together eco‑friendly materials, traditional sewing techniques. I feel that the bat has a playful goggly eyed character that fits into the Flora Patterns style perfectly.

Now, after all that refining and testing, I’m almost ready to launch it in my Flora Patterns Etsy shop. There, you’ll find a growing collection of felt animal sewing kits, hand‑stitched ornaments, and creative craft projects inspired by nature and slow stitching. will post a blog when the kit is in the shop.

Embroidering Tummy Panels for some Mini Bears

Just had a very productive day embroidering the tummies for some more Mini Bears one of my favourite parts of making these hand‑stitched home decorations. There’s nothing I like better than drawing with thread, letting the stitches build up into tiny details that bring each felt bear ornament to life. Slow, mindful, and wonderfully satisfying.

New Mini Hen sewing kit instruction booklet finished.

This little instruction booklet accompanies your Mini Hen Sewing Kit. The pattern is adapted from one of my mother’s original designs, discovered in the treasure trove of her sewing cupboard. She created these charming hens in the 1940s while convalescing from illness, and it’s a joy to bring them back to life for you today.

Inside, you’ll find twenty‑nine full‑colour pages of clear, step‑by‑step guidance, including three pages dedicated to embroidery stitches. Everything is designed to help you enjoy a gentle, creative make, just as she once did. Below are some snippets from the new booklet.

The Panda Felt Wall Flag is made from 100% wool felt. A little red butterfly has landed on the panda’s nose. That must be tickly.
The Polar Bear Felt Wall Flag is made from 100% wool felt. There is a splendid red bow-tie at it’s chin.
