After what felt like a long, sun‑soaked summer here in Cornwall, the shift to autumn brings a welcome calm. The South of France‑style weather was glorious, though as a Scottish lass I don’t always cope well with the heat! Still, it’s been an amazing season for Cornwall, the beaches were bustling, and now, as the schools return, the roads have quietened again.
My garden hasn’t fared quite so well this year as the drought took its toll, and I’ve lost a few shrubs. Thankfully, the rain has arrived, and I’m hopeful for recovery. On a brighter note, my patio tomatoes have thrived, they’ve been bountiful and delicious!
Crafting for Christmas
With autumn’s arrival, my focus turns to preparing for the Christmas craft fairs. I’ve been busy creating felt Christmas trees, each one hand‑stitched and full of character. My goal is to build a tiny forest of festive designs for my stall.
Embroidered Felt Stars
Lately, I’ve made a batch of embroidering felt stars, and I’m pleased at how they have turning out. Each star combines traditional embroidery techniques with a touch of modern whimsy. Basically a variation of a theme. They use Running stitch, Chain stitch and French Knot.
